With the second issue of Savage Storm, James Mishler and I introduced the villain, Commodore Vanderkill, and set up a situation where the two faction leaders from the game would have to cooperate.
James and I turned the issue in just before Christmas in 2021, with revisions completed by the end of January. By this point, we’d started to see Christian Rosado‘s artwork, and were just floored by how great it was.
At this point, the hope was for a summer 2022 release — with the game to follow soon afterward — but as with all things in the video game world, that was subject to change. And change it did.
“Even a modest policeman must make a living, no?” — Commodore Vanderkill
There’s a quote from Sir Francis Drake in the captions, and I was prepared to do a lot more real-life references — but given that the setting of the game would be a mix of real and fantasy, we chose not to lean too far into the history.
